Week 10: Final blog post
The inspiration for my final project came mostly from J.R. Carpenter’s Entre Ville. I love the scrapbook looking aspect as well as how she uses it to reflect on her time living in Montreal. I love how each image corresponds to some aspect of her time there, as well as the poem that outlines details of life in her neighborhood. I like the visual aspect of all her works, they are very scrapbook-like, which is kind of what I’m going for in my final project. I looked at a couple of her works including There He Was Gone, A Walk Through Texts, and City Fish, and her scrapbook style remains throughout the different pieces. They are all hypertexts for the most part, though I believe A Walk Through Texts is a novel and instead of clicking on pictures you click on words to bring you to another paragraph. I particularly enjoyed City Fish, and while the text was a bit confusing I liked that there were tidbits to a bigger narrative, similar to Entre Ville. I also love how she includes little videos in her works, and I think I might try and include that aspect in my final project. There He Was Gone was the most confusing out of the handful I looked at, it was more of a kinetic poem than a hypertext but I enjoyed the rotating poem a lot as well as the aesthetics of the work. I also found it interesting how each poem started with “listen” and ended with “wait,” I feel as though this added a different level of meaning, which makes me wonder if I should include a repetitive word or theme in my final project.

I just love her collage style!
