Lindsay Week 9

In his TED Talk video, Chris Milk explains how virtual reality goes beyond entertainment; it can help people feel what others are going through. He calls VR the “ultimate empathy machine” because it lets you step into someone else's shoes and see the world from their point of view. Milk shares his project Clouds Over Sidra, a VR experience about a 12-year-old Syrian refugee. Instead of just watching her story on a screen, viewers feel like they’re actually inside her world, walking through the refugee camp with her. This kind of experience creates a stronger emotional connection than traditional forms of media.

Antonio Daniele’s interactive installation “This Is Not Private” also explores empathy in a unique way. It uses facial recognition to blend the viewer’s face with the face of someone telling a personal story on screen. This makes it feel like you’re looking at yourself while hearing someone else’s experience, helping you feel more connected to their emotions which I find very fascinating.

  1. I agree that VR has the capabilities to create stronger emotional connections than other forms of media. "This is not Private" was very interesting to me, and I think it would be cool to experience it in person.

  2. I agree that VR can help people feel empathy towards others. That aspect is very interesting to me because you are literally becoming another person in a way.
