Daniel Spargo Final Blog
For my final blog and bring it, I chose to look at the text-based video game titled SanctuaryRPG. This is a video game released in 2014 that is entirely text based with many branching choices along the way. It could be comparable to some hypertext essays and other pieces in that space, however this project has graphics and allows for player autonomy in how the story progresses. What is quite unique about this video game is that it is entirely text-based. It may have graphics such as weapon and character designs, but even those are made up of text. It is a very fascinating game, and it really functions well as a piece of digital text. Think of the Oregon Trail, but more complex and in a fantasy world. I love the amount of choices that the game has to offer. There are so many different scenarios to encounter and things to do and it's all fun. Playing a video game rpg that only uses text is truly a cool experience. The game has been received positively since its release, which is very funny to see considering how many big budget games with realistic 3D graphics have gotten much worse reviews than a simple text game. I loved looking at this game because I want to accomplish the same sort of choose your own adventure rpg style through the Twine medium. It won't be nearly as complex as this game unfortunately, but I want to make it as detailed as possible. Games like SanctuaryRPG have been the inspiration for my final project ideas, and I am very excited to get started on it.
