Haylie's Week 5 Post

Chapter 5 of the textbook focuses on kinetic and interactive poetry. "Kinetic and interactive poetry explore the specific multimedia capacities of the contemporary computer as a poetic environment for both composition and reception" (Rettberg 118). In other words, these 2 ideas come together in a modern way using computers/digital features to be able to create and experience in a different way. Concrete poetry has a connection to kinetic and interactive poetry. Concrete poetry focuses on the layout and form of a text to emphasize the meanings of the words. Kinetic and interactive poetry has a similar focus on motion and interactiveness with the reader which adds to concrete poetry's goal.

I decided to look at "dear e.e" by Lori Janis and Ingrid Ankerson. I thought that this piece was very interesting. There is a "wake up" button which brings you to an image of trees on a sunny day and it's very peaceful. In the "asleep" mode, there is a lot going on and the furniture has words above them that are a little hard to read. The difference between the 2 "modes" is cool to look at but I'm not too sure how they connect to each other or if they do.
