Week four: more hypertext

I decided to read The Babysitter By Robert Coover, which is an enticing story that follows multiple different characters, all of whom are related in some form, in the timespan of one night. I was able to get through the first few pages before getting lost, and as far as I read there were a handful of characters, including: the babysitter, Mr and Mrs Turner, the three children, the baby sitters boyfriend Jack, his friend Mark, and a few possible other ones. Each paragraph of the story is a different character's perspective, though each section is written in the 3rd person point of view, and doesn't explicitly say who's perspective the paragraph is in. This makes it incredibly difficult to follow at times, though the story is captivating because each character has surprising motivations, making the reader want to find out what happens. Unlike other hypertext works, this story does indeed end, and though I did thoroughly not read the entire thing, it appears that the ending is incredibly chaotic. Overall, this piece is rather mind boggling, but also beautifully written and brilliantly laid out. There are so many pieces to put together, and you have to really immerse yourself in the story in order to understand what is going on. Though it is not a traditional story by any means, it was still a very interesting and eye opening read.
